KCOD - 2021 Cody WY

Cody Wyoming (KCOD)

Hosted by Bob and Shawn Kinney
September 10 - 12, 2021

CodyWySign It’s finally going to happen!  We’ve tried twice to visit Cody, Wyoming and have been thwarted both times due to scheduling conflicts with other fly-ins last year and dealing with the weather gods back in 2019.  We’ve ordered fantastic weather for this year’s visit to Cody and we’re hoping that Covid is finally dying a long overdue death.  Located 327 nm northwest of the Denver area, Cody is a beautiful destination for our CPA members.

The cowboy cabins at Buffalo Bill Village in Cody is our home for this visit.  At $124 per night, this is a late season steal!  Call 307-587-5544 Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. MT and ask for Ruby Rogers (she's coordinating the CPA event group booking) to reserve your part of the old west now.  Buffalo Bill wouldn’t know what to do with the amenities this place offers.  https://www.buffalobillvillage.com

Our 12 room block will be held until August 10.  Call now!  Request the rate for the “Colorado Pilots Association” group.  There is a 72 hour cancellation policy.

Cody was founded by Colonel William F. "Buffalo Bill" Cody, who passed through the region in the 1870s. He was so impressed by the many development possibilities that he returned in the mid-1890s to start a town.

Cody is located along the Shoshone River and is nestled at the foot of the Beartooth Mountains. Cody and the surrounding areas boast superb scenery and many areas fit for a variety of outdoor activities. As a popular tourist destination, Cody has many fantastic restaurants, shopping locations, art galleries, museums, and businesses.

Schedule:

Friday September 10th

Arrive KCOD (Choice Aviation) (327 nm from KBJC) by 10:30 a.m.
(Chat w/ fellow CPA en-route air-to-air on 122.75).

Upon arrival, rental cars will be distributed to each appointed driver.

Following our arrival on Friday afternoon September 10, and lunch & ice cream at Annie’s Soda Saloon, our intrepid CPA fly-in group is slated to visit the Heart Mountain Interpretive Center/Museum. (Admission Adults $9 & Seniors $7). This world-class museum is dedicated to passing on the Heart Mountain story to future generations. Through photographs, artifacts, oral histories, and interactive exhibits, guests to the Center experience life at Heart Mountain through the eyes of those Japanese and Japanese Americans who were confined here during WWII. The "Heart Mountain Relocation Center" opened in August 1942 and imprisoned more than 14,000 people during its three-year existence. The last incarcerees left Wyoming in November 1945.

Following our Heart Mountain visit we’ll head back to the Buffalo Bill Village to check in, get settled in, and prep for CPA’s 5:00 Happy Hour (Bring light snacks to share & BYOB).  Those interested in a walk around town prior to happy hour are welcome to stretch your legs.  Dinner and/or ice cream is on your own following happy hour.  Enjoy Cody!

Buffalo Bill

CodyEventsCenter Saturday September 11th

The Cody EAA has offered to play host to our Colorado CPA members for an airport pancake breakfast followed by its local members opening their hangars for a “show and tell” session.  (We’re guessing a small donation would be appreciated). We’ll depart the Buffalo Bill Village for the airport at 7:45 a.m.

The rest of the day will be spent at the primary venue that drew us to Cody. . .The Buffalo Bill Center of the West.  (Admission Adults $19.25 & Seniors $18.25).  This conglomeration of five wonderful museums under one roof is remarkable.  Center stage is the renowned Cody Firearms Museum which re-opened in July of 2019 following a two year renovation.  Do the research, there’s none finer.  The Whitney Gallery of Western Art, the Plains Indian Museum, the Buffalo Bill Museum, and the Draper Museum of Natural History round out the offerings of the BBCW.  There truly is something for everyone at this remarkable facility.

At 6:30 Saturday evening, following BYBO happy hour, we’ll enjoy a group dinner at Buffalo Bill’s Irma Hotel/Restaurant & Saloon in downtown Cody.  You’re really going to be immersed in the flavor of the old west. “http://www.irmahotel.com/special-events-holiday-dining-irma-cody-wy.php”.  How do we follow that up?  Bed time baby. . .bed time!

Sunday September 12th:

After breakfast Sunday morning
, we’ll make the normal early CPA departure for home and say goodbye to another memorable CPA fly-in experience.  It’s a scenic flight back to “Colorful Colorado” but the memories will last a lifetime.   It’s time to make that scenic flight back to Colorado following breakfast at the hotel.  Departure time to be determined prior to Sunday morning.
