Join us for a trip to Johnson Creek, ID (3U2), for a backcountry trip of a lifetime through Idaho’s Sawtooth Mountains. We will be camping at the pristine airstrip nestled in a valley among towering mountains. This trip requires flying through mountainous terrain, soft field operations, and high density altitudes. The fly-in will have organized activities while also leaving appropriate free time for pilots and guests to explore the area in a way compatible with their skill sets, aircraft, and interests. Participants should feel free to research the area and discuss with other pilots if they wish to explore more adventurous options. This is all being coordinated on the Colorado Backcountry Flying Facebook page.
Disclaimer: This fly-in includes mountain flying with soft field and high density altitude operations. You will be camping at the runway and need to be generally self-sufficient with your own food. Water is available at the campground. Supplies can be purchased in nearby Yellow Pine and accessed with courtesy vehicles. The only group organized meal is breakfast on Saturday.
Morning: Enjoy a quick cup of coffee provided by our hosts (bring some cash for their tip jar) and fly to Smiley Creek (U87) for breakfast at the Smiley Creek Lodge (https://www.smileycreeklodge.com/restaurant). Target arrival for breakfast between 8:30 and 9:00 a.m.
After Breakfast:
