Boulder Municipal Airport (KBDU) has issued advance notice of a crack fill and seal coat project on Runway 8/26 and Taxiway A that will require pavement closures this fall.
American Road Maintenance is scheduled to begin construction on September 22, 2026, with Runway 8/26 closed for approximately 9 days. The glider runway, 8G/26G, will stay open throughout the project, with access points controlled at A1 or A4 depending on which phase of construction is underway at the time.
The city says the project has been phased specifically to minimize runway downtime, and that the final phasing plan came directly out of tenant consultation sessions held in May and August. NOTAMs detailing exactly which pavement sections are closed, and for how long, will be issued up to 72 hours in advance of each closure.
After the initial runway closure, the new surface will need roughly 30 days to cure. American Road Maintenance will then return for a separate 1.5-day closure to install permanent airfield markings. Dates for that final phase haven't been set yet; the city will NOTAM it and notify tenants once they're finalized.
