Annular Eclipse Fly-in

On October 14, 2023 an annular or “ring of fire” will carve a narrow path of annularity from northwest to southeast across eight US States. To experience the annular phase of the eclipse you must be located within this narrow path lasting the longest time at the centerline. The center line of the eclipse enters our viewing area in New Mexico at approximately 0911h MDT. Maximum sun coverage will occur at about 10:20 and be complete by noon.

Hopefully, the New Mexico weather will be favorable and allow us to witness the entire morning event without clouds.

Plan to arrive Friday afternoon at Cortez, Colorado (KCEZ), which is around 250nm from KAPA.

We have arranged for transportation to the hotel at 1600h on Friday and will have dinner in one of several nearby restaurants that evening.

Saturday morning
We will leave the hotel at 0715h and return to the airport. By 0800h we’ll be in the air headed for 5V5, which is 26nm south and park on the taxiway prior to the start of the eclipse.

Oh, by the way in case you wondered: Since an eclipse is neither a sunset or sunrise, nor does it happen between evenings and mornings, it does not fit the definition of "Night" for legal purposes.

Reserve your room with Best Western by calling 970-565-3778. Suites are $121.00 and rooms $112.00 at our CPA group rate. An allocation of 6 rooms and 6 suites have been blocked. The deadline for reserving your room is September 13, 2023. After that date, the rooms will be released. Please reserve early! These celestial events are rare.

The hotel cancellation notice requirement for no charge is 24 hours ahead of check-in.

Registration Fee: $10 per person for the ride from the airport to the hotel and then back the next morning.
