The town of Superior is holding a community listening session with Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser slated to attend.
About this event
In addition to the Colorado Pilots Association we are including the contents of AOPA Northwest Mountain Regional Manager Regional Brad Schuster's recent email:
In a somewhat unprecedented effort, I am forwarding this message to airport administrators, airport users, and aviation organizations located along the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains.
If you are already a current AOPA member with a Colorado address, you should have already received this today (and you will get a “reminder” message this coming Saturday).
If not, please explore whether you might be willing/able to attend the upcoming community this coming Monday Oct 23 in Superior, CO at 6PM where the CO attorney general is expected to hear from Front Range citizens about aircraft noise and leaded avgas impacts to their communities’.
A couple examples of some recent local social media posts follows:
A more recent update from 10/19:
Something to consider - All of us pilots and those that live in the community and work in aviation have the right to be concerned about their continued attacks on our livelihood.
AOPA believes it is vital that the CO AG hear from Front Range area pilots and airport stakeholders during this event, hence our call to action. The actual message to our members is below my signature block.
Since you live in Colorado and are passionate about aviation, AOPA is requesting you appear in person at a listening session with Colorado Attorney General (AG) Phil Weiser.
Date: Monday, October 23
Time: 6:00 PM
Address: Superior Community Center
1500 Coalton Road
Superior, CO 80027
Why Is Your Support Needed? This listening session with the AG is being held specifically at the request of several anti-airport activist groups and constituents to listen to community concerns on “…the impacts these airports are having, including noise and lead pollution.”
AOPA expects a very large contingent of anti-airport citizens in attendance at this event and as a result, we are requesting that all aviation advocates attend to make it clear that there are many similarly reasonable citizens that:
a) value airports
b) fully support a smart and safe transition away from leaded avgas as soon as 100UL is widely available
c) fully support “flying friendly” near communities that currently exist near airports to keep aircraft-related noise to a minimum
d) fully support smart zoning decisions near airports for future residential developments
AOPA strongly supports a smart and safe transition to unleaded 100 octane aviation gasoline, and opposed any local effort to discontinue 100LL sales until the unleaded replacement is widely available.
AOPA also strongly supports FAA policy requiring that airport sponsors protect their airports form incompatible land use development.
The flyer announcing the CO AG listening session can be found below for reference.
Thank you for considering attending this event; your aviation community is counting on you to show your face and let your voice be heard by the Colorado AG on October 23, 2023.
