Volume 17, No. 3 – April 2000

The April 2000 issue of Flight Lines highlights CPA’s successful defense of Boulder Airport (1V5) against a proposal to convert it to affordable housing. President Will Barclay describes how early detection and rapid community mobilization—bringing together over 100 airport supporters from both aviation and non-aviation backgrounds—convinced the city council to reject the threat. The newsletter emphasizes key lessons for other airport communities, including cultivating support outside the aviation community and being prepared to act decisively when threats emerge.

The issue also focuses on public relations efforts to promote general aviation education in Colorado. CPA is recruiting volunteer pilots to provide introductory flights for teachers and high school students through the Fantasy of Flight Foundation program, highlighting the need to build public awareness and support for general aviation. Additionally, a Father’s Day pancake breakfast and airplane wash is planned to bring the community together while promoting CPA membership.
