The October 1998 issue of Flight Lines highlights a memorable CPA fly-in to Cody, Wyoming, where nearly 20 members experienced the realities of backcountry weather decision-making. The President’s message describes how patience and good judgment led the group to embrace weather delays rather than push through marginal conditions, turning an extended trip into a shared adventure. Featured prominently is the inspiring story of Herbert S. Kirk, a 103-year-old World War I Naval pilot who flew submarine hunting missions from England and recently took control of a Mooney during a flight around Gallatin Valley, Montana—a remarkable testament to a life dedicated to aviation.
The newsletter also announces the upcoming CPA Holiday Dinner on December 13, 1998, at Assignments Restaurant (operated by the School of Culinary Arts in Denver), priced at $30 per person. The event promises a formal sit-down experience with multiple courses and supports culinary students through paid work opportunities. Additionally, the issue covers the growing trend of airport web sites in Colorado, including new sites for Centennial and Jeffco airports, along with updates on the Colorado Aeronautical Board’s plans for improved web-based communication.
