Volume 23, No. 3 (March 2006) — The March 2006 Flight Lines features an exciting highlight: CPA member Rob Melnick and his 15-year-old daughter Alexandra won the AOPA Better-Than-New Commander 112 in a surprise presentation on Super Bowl Sunday at Centennial Airport. Over 50 CPA members gathered to celebrate the moment, which was also featured by Denver television news stations. The issue also includes administrative notices about the need for a CPA Secretary and calls for member contributions of stories and photographs to the newsletter.

The newsletter covers routine membership matters, including new members and renewals, as well as CPA President Bart Jones’s reflection on an aborted Presidents Day weekend trip to Big Bend National Park due to unexpected winter weather. Additionally, Flight Lines announces an important upcoming training event focused on mountain flying and high-elevation airport operations scheduled for June 2006.

The surprise announcement took place at Centennial Airport with AOPA President Phil Boyer and over 50 CPA members in attendance. Alexandra expressed renewed interest in flying, stating “I can’t think of a better way to spend a weekend than to win an airplane.”
