The 100R Avgas Transition to Unleaded
# Colorado Pilots Association News Brief
Swift Fuels’ unleaded 100-octane avgas (100R) recently received FAA approval for over 1,200 additional engine models and 1,600 airframe models, now covering an estimated 56% of the U.S. certificated piston fleet currently using leaded 100LL fuel. This significant expansion means Colorado pilots operating eligible aircraft can now transition to a lead-free alternative that eliminates engine fouling and corrosion issues associated with traditional leaded avgas. Pilots can use Swift’s online tool to verify whether their aircraft is approved for 100R use under the expanded Supplemental Type Certificate.
