Flight Lines January 2008 focuses on winter flying safety and creative aviation activities. CPA President Sarah Jane Dolliver's message emphasizes the critical dangers of aircraft icing during winter months, providing detailed technical information about ice formation, types of ice, and emergency procedures. The newsletter also highlights how members stay engaged with aviation during poor weather, featuring a unique story about "The Kiwi," an elaborate flight simulator cockpit built by members Jay and Mary Honeck at their Iowa City aviation-themed hotel.
The issue reflects CPA's commitment to member safety and community engagement. President Dolliver stresses the importance of recognizing icing conditions, understanding how ice affects different aircraft surfaces, and taking immediate action to escape icing situations. She reminds pilots of FAR 91.527 regulations and the importance of declaring an emergency if necessary. The newsletter also notes that CPA is not affiliated with a newly formed "Colorado Pilots Club" and clarifies the distinction for members.
