Volume 23, No. 2 – February 2006
The Colorado Pilots Association held a productive fly-in planning meeting in January 2006, where members contributed ideas for 12 trips spanning April through November, including visits to a missile silo, the Mooney factory, and the AOPA convention, alongside mountain camping and fishing excursions. The CPA also hosted an important safety seminar on hypoxia led by FAA Safety Counselor Mary Ann Davis, which emphasized the dangers of high-altitude flying in Colorado and demonstrated the use of pulse oximeters to monitor blood oxygen saturation levels. President Bart Jones highlighted that Colorado pilots frequently operate at elevations like 13,500 feet without fully appreciating the physiological risks involved.
Airport infrastructure improvements across Colorado were highlighted, including the reopening of Stevens Field (Archuleta County Airport) in Pagosa Springs following a 2-year runway reconstruction project, and ongoing major runway reconstruction at Colorado Springs Airport. The newsletter also recognized new and renewing CPA members and announced upcoming board meetings and airport events.
