Colorado Pilots Association Newsletter – February 1992
CPA President Bill Standerfer addresses a key organizational challenge: member retention and engagement across Colorado’s vast geographic area. Many departing members cited isolation and lack of local meetings as reasons for non-renewal. In response, the organization is implementing a three-part solution: quarterly board meetings outside Denver, an expanded programs initiative under Mike Baldwin to reach underserved areas, and enhanced safety and wings programs coordinated by Vern Foster and Scott Turner across the state.
The Board of Directors meeting report highlights significant airspace and regulatory issues facing Colorado pilots. The Airspace Committee, chaired by Walt Bell, is actively monitoring multiple proposals including the ZOOMIE MOA near Colorado Springs, the REDEYE airspace proposal for Colorado Air National Guard training, and concerns about new FAA policy requiring engineering evaluation for aircraft field modifications. The organization continues advocacy efforts on the Front Range Airport Layout Plan and airport access issues.
Membership and education initiatives are also underway, with the CPA Student Airlift planned for April/May at Jeffco Airport, an updated Directory of Flight Schools, and preliminary work on a members-only groundschool program.
