May 2018 Flight Lines focuses on aviation heritage and current CPA initiatives. The newsletter highlights aviation history milestones from May, including the 1942 formation of an all-women Soviet night-bombing squadron, the 1963 speed record set by Jacqueline Cochran, and Alan Shepard’s 1961 suborbital spaceflight. More importantly, CPA President Bart Jones addresses declining membership, urging members to switch to electronic newsletter delivery to reduce mailing costs now that membership has fallen below 200. He calls for personal recruitment efforts to bring new pilots and aviation enthusiasts into the organization as the flying season begins.

The newsletter reports on member accomplishments, including the recognition of Dr. Penny Rafferty Hamilton’s children’s history book as a finalist in the Colorado Author’s League competition. Airport notices inform members of ongoing construction at various Colorado airports and announce upcoming fly-in events and pancake breakfasts across the state.
