Annual Airport Operations (2018):
Longmont Airport Community

Noise Abatement:

Voluntary Noise Abatement Procedures - The Longmont Municipal Airport has a voluntary noise abatement program. The Airport has developed the Voluntary Noise Abatement Procedures (VNAP) in an effort to be responsive to the concerns of our neighbors and to continue to provide an excellent facility for your use. Voluntary Noise Abatement Procedures (VNAP) are designed to minimize the exposure of residential and other noise sensitive areas to aircraft noise, while ensuring the safety of flight operations. Pilots are asked to follow the voluntary noise abatement procedures and “fly friendly” in an effort to be good neighbors to the citizens who live under the aircraft flight paths.

Airport - The Boulder County Sheriff’s Department in Colorado, along with several other agencies including the FBI and the FAA, is investigating whether or not someone has been shooting at aircraft operating at Vance Brand Longmont Municipal Airport (KLMO). A city employee called the sheriff’s office to report a voicemail message from a caller who claimed to have fired at an aircraft (described as an “ultralight”). Longmont airport: City attempts to balance housing needs, FAA concerns - Longmont officials are discussing how to balance the city’s need for more housing with federal grant funding rules for the Vance Brand Airport.

That’s because proposed developments near airports are seen as an “incompatible land use” in certain zones, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. The FAA requires cities to restrict land use next to airports to “activities and purposes compatible with normal airport operations,” including airplanes taking off and landing. - May 19, 2024
