Colorado Division of Aeronautics

The Colorado Division of Aeronautics is part of the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT). In its own words, its mission is “to support Colorado’s multi-modal transportation system by advancing a safe, efficient, and effective statewide aviation system through collaboration, investment, and advocacy.”

  • Free airport directory and chart

    Request the 2026 Colorado Airport Directory and Colorado Aeronautical Chart by mail, or ask for a PDF copy of the directory.

  • Mountain weather stations

    The Colorado Mountain AWOS program runs twelve automated weather stations at mountain passes along the Continental Divide, each linked to FAA weather cameras. Our Mountain Passes page lists the station for each pass.

  • Mountain pass GPS waypoints

    The Division led the effort to chart VFR GPS waypoints for Colorado’s mountain passes.

  • Unleaded avgas

    Colorado’s HB24-1235 gives aircraft owners a state income tax deduction for 50% of the cost of an unleaded avgas supplemental type certificate (STC), starting with the 2025 tax year.

Colorado Aeronautical Board

Created by statute in 1988, the Board has ten members: nine voting members and one non-voting representative from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. It oversees aviation development in Colorado, manages entitlement reimbursements from aviation and fuel tax revenues, administers the discretionary aviation grants and maintains the state aviation system plan.

Board meetings are open to the public, in person or on Zoom. To speak remotely, send a request by 8:30 a.m. on the day of the meeting; each speaker has three minutes. Board meetings and how to take part

For airports, schools and students

  • Grants. The Board administers the Discretionary Aviation Grant Program. The Colorado Aviation Education Grant supports aviation and aerospace education in Colorado schools and established organizations. Programs and grants

Data and reports

The Division lists the Colorado Pilots Association among its resources for pilots, and CPA is glad to point members back to the Division’s work.
