Angle of Attack Trainer

See the air leave the wing. An interactive trainer built on the FAA handbooks.

The trainer showing a wing at 18 degrees angle of attack: the airflow has separated behind the wing, the gauge reads Stalled, and the lift curve has passed its peak at the 16 degree critical angle.

What you can do with it

  • Raise the angle of attack on a Cessna 172 wing and watch the airflow stay attached, then separate at the critical angle.
  • Try flaps, ice and a hot day at Centennial, and see how each one moves the stall.
  • Stall in a turn, and see why pitch attitude is not angle of attack.
  • Fly a 3D Cessna 172 through a coordinated stall, a base-to-final skid and a spin recovery, step by step.
