Discord is a free app where CPA members talk with each other: fly-ins and trips, mountain flying and safety, airport news and training. This guide takes you there one step at a time. It takes about five minutes.
No, or I'm not sure: press Next step. We'll set it up together.
Discord started with video gamers, but today clubs, schools and pilot groups use it too. CPA's space is only about flying.
Step 2 of 6
Choose where to use it
Easiest: on a computer, in your web browser. Nothing to install. When you press the Join button in step 4, choose Continue in browser if Discord offers to open an app.
On a phone or tablet: open the App Store (iPhone, iPad) or Google Play (Android), search for Discord, and install the one made by Discord Inc. Its icon is a white game controller face on a blue-purple square.

Step 3 of 6
Make your Discord account
Open the app, or go to discord.com in your browser, and choose Register (sometimes shown as "Sign up"). Discord asks for:
Email: the one you read every day. Discord sends a confirmation there.
Display name: use your real name, so other members know who you are.
Username: a short one-word name, like janesmith48. If it's taken, add a number.
Password and date of birth.
Then open the email from Discord and press Verify Email.

Step 4 of 6
Join CPA's server
Make sure you're signed in to Discord, then press:
Discord shows Colorado Pilot's Association. Press Accept Invite (or Join). Discord may ask one or two quick questions about what you're interested in. Pick what fits; you can change it later.
Did it work?
You see "Colorado Pilot's Association" on the leftCHECK
The button opens in a new tab. If it says the invite is invalid, wait a minute and press it again: the site fetches a fresh one.
Step 5 of 6
Say hi in #welcome
On the left, under Start Here, press #welcome. Type in the box at the bottom and press Enter (on a phone, the send arrow). Tell people:
your name
your home airport
what you fly (or are learning to fly)
A CPA host replies, usually within a day.
Did it work?
Your message shows in #welcomeCHECK
Step 6 of 6
Find the pilot groups
Under Pilot Groups on the left, each group holds its own topics. Open a topic to read it and reply at the bottom.
#fly-ins-and-trips: fly-ins, day trips, trip reports and meetups
#mountain-flying-and-safety: mountain flying, weather and safety
#airports-and-advocacy: news and issues at Colorado airports
#training-and-scholarships: scholarships, flight training and ground school
#ask-cpa: questions about membership or this website
To start your own topic, open a group and press New Post. When the website adds a fly-in or an airport story, a topic for it appears in the matching group, so that's a good place to look first.
