“Gone West” is the aviation community’s way of honoring those who have made their final flight. We remember these CPA members for their contributions to aviation and to the Colorado flying community.

If you would like to honor a CPA member who has gone west, please contact us with their name, dates, a photo, and a few words about their life in aviation. We want to ensure their contributions to Colorado aviation are remembered.

Frank Gallo

Col. Frank G. Gallo , USAF Ret., died on April 23rd 2026 surrounded by family. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Vanita, his daughters Lyn Heathershaw, Patricia Shapiro and Jean Manning- Clark, as well as five grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. His daughter Katherine preceded him in death. Frank flew the F86 Saber jet, the B-52 Stratofortress, the Douglas C47 Skytrain, and the North American Saber liner during his years in the Air Force. He also served as an air traffic controller. After a tour of duty at the Pentagon, he ended his career with a tour of duty at the Air Force Accounting and Finance Offices in Denver, where he decided to retire after 27 years of service. As a civilian, Frank was employed by the State of Colorado as Director of Financial Services at the Colorado Judicial Department from which he retired in 1991. He and his wife Vanita enjoyed living in Costa Rica for 10 years and also restoring an old colonial house in Granada, Nicaragua. He was proud to be a member of Post No. 1 of the American Legion in Granada. Frank’s favorite activities were traveling the world via cruse ships and ATVing with friends in Moab. Frank was active in the local aviation community, serving as President of the Colorado Pilots Association and participating in many flying activities.

There will be a Memorial Service for him on May 20 at 10:00 a.m. at Drinkwine Family Mortuary, 999 West Littleton Boulevard, Littleton, Co. Refreshments follow.

Babette Yvonne Andre

A Certified Flight Instructor for over 40 years, Babette was inducted into the Colorado Aviation Hall of Fame in 1990. She founded Wings West Magazine in 1985, bringing Colorado aviation stories to thousands of readers, and was named Aviation Journalist of the Year in 1989. Her dedication to flight instruction and aviation journalism left an enduring mark on the Colorado flying community.

Robert Joseph Doubek

Robert Joseph Doubek

A licensed pilot for an extraordinary 79 years, Robert Doubek combined his passion for aviation with a career as a mechanical engineer. His nearly eight decades of safe flying stand as a remarkable testament to a life dedicated to the skies.

Charles "Dewey" Reinhard

Charles "Dewey" Reinhard

An internationally known balloonist and aviation legend, Dewey Reinhard was inducted into the Colorado Aviation Hall of Fame in 1983 and the U.S. Ballooning Hall of Fame in 2011. His contributions to lighter-than-air flight and his adventurous spirit inspired aviators of all kinds across Colorado and beyond.

Bea Khan Wilhite

Bea Khan Wilhite

Bea Wilhite served as the first female president of the Colorado Aviation Historical Society from 2002 to 2008. A passionate advocate for preserving Colorado's aviation heritage, Bea was a fixture at aviation events and a respected voice in the community for decades.

Evan Slack

Evan Slack

A radio broadcaster and pilot since 1967, Evan Slack brought his love of aviation to everything he did. A dedicated CPA member, Evan's enthusiasm for flying and his warm personality made him a beloved figure in the Colorado pilot community.

Emily Howell Warner

Emily Howell Warner

A true pioneer of aviation. Emily Howell Warner became the first woman hired as a pilot by a scheduled U.S. airline when she joined Frontier Airlines in 1973, and in 1976 became the first female captain of a U.S. scheduled airline. Over her remarkable career, she logged more than 21,000 flight hours. Emily was a passionate advocate for women in aviation and a beloved member of the Colorado aviation community. CPA's Emily Howell Warner Scholarship honors her legacy by supporting female pilots pursuing advanced ratings.
